Dojo rules
- Discipline is as essential part of shotokan karate. Please ensure you follow the etiquette listed below at all times in the dojo.
- Always bow when entering or leaving the dojo. Direct your bow to the senior person present and acknowledge his or her presence with the greeting.
- Remove shoes and any jewellery before entering the dojo.Be prompt. Arrive before class begins.
- If you come in late, kneel by the door and wait for permission to join practice.
- Junior students are expected to look to seniors for guidance, imitate their behaviour, and treat them with respect and consideration. Sit and stand when your seniors do. Senior students are expected to set a good example for juniors, protect them from injury, help them learn, and treat them with respect and consideration.
- Take care of your gi. It should be kept clean for each training session and kept neat during training. Your obi (belt) should never be washed, nor thrown to the floor.
- Do not teach new techniques or kata to other students unless asked to do so by your sensei.
- Pay attention. Concentrate fully and do not talk during training.
- Always try your very best during training.
